2017-present: I teach religious education classes to a group of first graders every Wednesday night at Saint Mary's Parish in Bismarck.
2013-2015: I taught faith formation classes every Sunday to a class of four and five-year-olds at St. Paul Parish in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.
No Excuses University
2017-18: Our junior ELA class communicated with a fourth-grade class in Montana that came from a low socioeconomic area. We wrote letters, sent a care package, skyped, and most of all, encouraged and reminded them how important learning is!
Day of Service
2015: Cleaning at Annunciation Monastery. I vacuumed, washed windows, and cleaned and organized the library. It was refreshing to be able to give back to the sisters who are always so hospitable to University of Mary students.
2017: Painting at Apple Creek Elementary. I stripped wall paper and painted the bathrooms in the school. The teachers were so gracious and appreciated our help very much.
Collegians for Life
2016: I served at Collegians for Life meals that benefited the pro-life cause. During the 2016 March for Life, we assisted others as we waited for plows to arrive on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. In 2017, The University of Mary had the honor of leading the March for Life.
Support Staff Appreciation
2016: To illustrate our support and appreciation to the staff at the University of Mary, the GTSB sophomore ELA class delivered thank you notes and gift bags with refreshments to every support staff member at the University of Mary.
Catholic Charities
2012- present: I have volunteered at various events at my local Catholic Charities location in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Tasks have included preparing food and serving meals, cleaning, organizing and sorting donations, and talking with the residents that live at the homeless shelter.
Leadership Opportunities
Catholic Youth Camp
2017: I worked as a lifeguard and counselor at a Catholic residential camp in Northern Minnesota. We served over 100 kids from North Minneapolis who are from a low socioeconomic background and came on scholarship. I taught canoeing, kayaking, swimming, paddle boarding, archery, and wilderness survival classes for groups of up to 20, as well as led nightly devotions and large group praise and worship.
Tri-Vally Opportunity Council
2018: TVOC Migrant services is an organization that serves the children of migrants working in seasonal agriculture jobs. After passing the required Spanish/English bilingual exam, I currently am working as an infant/toddler and preschool long-term substitute teacher for the organization.
Student Ambassador
2017-18: As a student ambassador, I had the opportunity to welcome prospective University of Mary students and their families and give them informational tours of campus. I also helped out with admission events, Welcome Week, and called many prospective students to answer questions.
Assistant in LFSEBS
2018-present: As an assistant in the Liffrig Family School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, I help Michelle and the professors with various office tasks including grading, copying, filing, and organizing.
